BETANCOURT BETHENCOURT, José Aureliano; RAMIS ANDALIA, Rina M  y  MIRABAL NAPOLES, Marjorie. Translational and transdisciplinary research in Public Health. Rev Cubana Salud Pública [online]. 2014, vol.40, n.2, pp.236-245. ISSN 0864-3466.

The term "translational research" is emerging in the international arena. It is related to the implementation of ideas, knowledge and discoveries generated from the research works for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases; it is focused on promoting the interaction between producers and users of research, provides pieces of information to different publics in such a way that the interventions can be massive and actually transforming. The fundamental principles of "translational research" are dissemination of information, scientific evidence put into practice and transfer of knowledge. The objective of the present article was to disclose the concepts of translational and transdisciplinary research from the theoretical and methodological viewpoint in order to bring about an organizational change in the public health research for primary care and to contribute to more effective transformations based on the new generated knowledge. This research approach is in line with the Cuban scientific policy. For information collection, EBSCO, Pubmed and Scielo databases were reviewed. It is feasible to obtain relevant results to be put immediately into practice. The research in the field of primary health care may be upgraded with the strategies of the national health management and the application of other traditional tools and of the complexity thinking commented on in this paper. With this approach, the perception of the problem by managers and decision-makers increases and dynamic solutions emerge from the inter-professional and community exchanges, with more effective strategies and opinions.
