The theoretical framework of a research work allows the construction of perspective about the scientific problem, but in the gender perspective, there is no difference in this regard, just the fundamentals sustaining the relationships between the sexes are emphasized in the studied context and its antecedents. The international organizations, the governments and the health authorities have called upon the scientific community to conduct gender-approach research work. The objective of this paper was to discuss the characteristics of the theoretical framework in gender approach research. The criteria were based on the information collected from the consulted bibliography on research methodology, gender and health. The definitions and the elements of the theoretical framework that should be dealt with ins in research and medical practice. For knowing the present situation of research work on this topic, available databases in the telematic network of health in Cuba in the 2003-2007 period were reviewed. A proposal was submitted, which allows enriching the actions to encourage adherence, and linked to the system of comprehensive care to the chronically-ill patients. The conceptual framework may represent a referent for the study, the evaluation and the improvement of adherence to medical treatment by these patients.
