SANCHEZ LOZANO, Jesús  y  MARTINEZ PIZARRO, Sandra. Management of Stigma in Mental Ill. Rev Cub Sal Públ [online]. 2024, vol.50  Epub 01-Mayo-2025. ISSN 1561-3127.

Introduction:

The stigmatization to which mentally ill people are subjected harms their recovery, their integration into society and the exercise of their rights. This phenomenon represents a relevant public health problem worldwide linked to a series of repercussions that should not go unnoticed.

Objective:

To update the information on the management of stigma in mentally ill people.

Methods:

A bibliographic search was carried out in PubMed, Scopus, Cinahl and Central databases. Studies carried out in the last 5 years are selected, in Spanish or English, with full text and of high methodological quality.

Conclusions:

Stigmatization of mentally ill people is an important problem that needs urgent attention and continuous monitoring. Through health promotion and education, we can intervene to reduce this phenomenon. Stigmatization must be combated through attitudes and transmission of knowledge and professional training. Professionals must first examine their own prejudice, combat it and then transmit to the population a principle of tolerance for all those who suffer from these diseases.
