Resumen

SUAREZ H, Zoraida  y  ROSALES, Ligia Carolina. BEHAVIOUR OF THE PINEAPPLE (Ananas comosus) GENETIC MATERIALS TO THE ATTACK OF Meloidogyne incognita RACE 1. Rev. Protección Veg. [online]. 2008, vol.23, n.3, pp.191-195. ISSN 1010-2752.

Resistance to Meloidogyne incognita race 1 of four pineapple (Ananas comosus (L.) Merr.) accessions from the Venezuelan Amazonic region was evaluated under greenhouse conditions. Pineapple accessions were identified as CRF-037, CRF-048, CRF-008 and CRF-040. Pots of 1 kg of soil sterilized with steam were used in a completely randomized design with two treatments and five replications/accession/treatment. One of the treatments was represented by five one-year old plants/accessions, which were inoculated with an initial population (Pi) of 10000 eggs and/or second stage juveniles (J2) of Meloidogyne incognita race 1. In the other treatment used as control, the five plants/accessions were not inoculated with nematodes. Fresh and dry weights of tops and roots and the nematode reproduction factor (RF= Pf /Pi) were recorded four months after inoculation. The data were analyzed by t Student test for independent samples at 1%. Plants with RF<1 were considered resistant and tolerant when the agronomic variables were not affected. Weights in accessions CRF-037 and CRF-048 were not affected. In the accession CRF-008, fresh and dry top weights and fresh root weights in the inoculated plants were significantly lower than in the non-inoculated plants; whereas, in the accession CRF-040, only the fresh root weight was affected. The reproduction factor was less to one in all the accessions thus they could be considered resistant. The materials CRF-037 and CRF-048 could be considered resistant-tolerant because the agronomic variables were not affected; whereas, CRF-008 and CRF-040 should be considered as not tolerant resistant because three and one of the agronomic variables, were affected respectively. These materials will be promissory in breeding programs.
