Resumen

GONZALEZ, Carlos  y  SURIS, Moraima. BEHAVIOR OF THRIP POPULATIONS ON THREE SPECIES OF ALIACEAS IN TWO CROP SYSTEMS IN HAVANA PROVINCE. Rev. Protección Veg. [online]. 2010, vol.25, n.2, pp.98-102. ISSN 1010-2752.

Few studies have been done in Cuba for determining the thrips present on crops of the family Aliaceae. The major researches have been carried out on Thrips tabaci Lindenman, which is considered the major pest on these crops. For detecting the presence of thrips on this group of plants, three botanical species, onion, garlic and chive, were sampled in Havana province in 2003 and 2004. The specimens were collected by striking the plants over a white cardboard and the adults clarified and mounted on slides; and for identification, regional taxonomic keys were used. Results showed the presence of 7 species of thrips on onion, 8 on chive and 13 on garlic. The total number of individuals on these crops showed significant differences favoring the open field system with regard to the organic garden. It was due to the high influence of T. tabaci populations, which was the dominant species. Regarding the use of pesticides, the effectiveness varied according to the crop systems and plant species. It must be pointed out that the species Bayleyothrips limbatus, Chaetanaphothrip leeuweni, Chaetanaphothrips orchidii and Chaetisothrips. Striatus are new records for Cuba.

Palabras clave : Aliaceae; thrips; Thripidae; Phlaeothripidae.
