GOMEZ, Lucila et al. Detection of Pasteuria penetrans (Thorne) Sayre & Starr in the western region of Cuba. Rev. Protección Veg. [online]. 2012, vol.27, n.3, pp.162-166. ISSN 1010-2752.

A survey of Pasteuria penetrans (Thorne) Sayre & Starr was carried out in several production systems of five provinces of the western region of Cuba. A total of 240 samples composed of soil and roots of different crops and ornamental plants infested by Meloidogyne spp. were collected. The percentages of natural parasitism of females and the number of endospore attached per juvenile were determined. The bacterium was detected in three of the five provinces. It occurred in three localities of Artemisa, three of Mayabeque, and five in La Habana, representing 17% of the total samples analyzed. A high percentage of parasitism was evidenced in Meloidogyne incognita (Kofoid and White) Chitwood and Meloidogyne arenaria (Neal) Chitwood. The highest frequency of occurrence of P. penetrans was in M. incognita. The number of endospores adhered to the nematode cuticle ranged from 2 to 3.

Palavras-chave : Meloidogyne; biological control; endospores; root-knot nematodes; Pasteuria penetrans.
