Abstract

BARBA, Anovel  and  SURIS, Moraima. Incidence of Thrips palmi Karny (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) in weeds associated with the watermelon crop for the region of Azuero, Panama. Rev. Protección Veg. [online]. 2015, vol.30, n.3, pp.171-175. ISSN 1010-2752.

The research was carried out to identify species of weeds associated with Thrips palmi Karny, in the watermelon crops growing in the region of Azuero, Panama. The weed species found to be associated with thrips were Baltimora recta L. (Asteraceae), Bidens pilosa L., Melampodium divaricatum (Rich.) DC, Amaranthus viridis L. (Amaranthaceae), Amaranthus spinosus L., and Lantana camara L. (Verbenaceae). The cultivars Capsicum frutesnces L., Capsicum annuum L., and Solanum melongena L. growing in the ruderal vegetation adjacent to watermelon crops were also found associated with thrips.
