Resumen

NZINGA, Manuel; SURIS, Moraima  y  MIRANDA, Ileana. Damages caused by Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) in two varieties of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) in Namibe province, Angola. Rev. Protección Veg. [online]. 2016, vol.31, n.1, pp. 35-41. ISSN 2224-4697.

In Angola, there are not studies that assess the damage that Heliothis armigera (Hübner) produces in the cultivation of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.). For this purpose, experiments were carried out with the tomato varieties IPA 6 and Rio Grande at two tomato farms located in two municipalities of the province of Namibe during the growing seasons from May to October 2012 and from March to August 2013. A split plot experimental design with five plots of 5 x 50m for each variety was used. A systematic fortnightly sampling of larvae was started on fifteen plants per plot after 30 days of seedling transplantation. The phytosanitary treatments and cultural practices traditionally used in the region were made. The results showed that both varieties were susceptible to H. armigera attack. The largest population averages of the pest and the biggest losses of fruits in term of number (84.1%) and weight (82.1%) were shown by the variety IPA 6.

Palabras clave : Helicoverpa armigera; tomato; Solanum lycopersicum; damage; Namibe; Angola.
