GOVIN SANJUDO, Alexander; LEAL SANABRIA, Güendis e LOPEZ HERNANDEZ, Dayesi. Antagonistic activity of endophytic bacteria from Leucocroton havanensis Borhidi against phytopathogenic fungi. Rev. Protección Veg. [online]. 2019, vol.34, n.2 Epub 01-Ago-2019. ISSN 2224-4697.
The objective of the study was to evaluate the antagonistic activity of Bacillus strains, endophytes of the nickel hyperaccumulator plant Leucocroton havanensis Borhidi, against the fungi Alternaria alternate (Fr.) Keissl. and three species of the genus Fusarium. The production of siderophores, HCN and lytic enzymes, such as amylases, proteases, and lipases, was determined. The antagonistic activity of the bacteria against the fungi were evaluated in vitro in dual culture. The inhibition percentages were compared by analysis of variance and Tukey's test. All strains produced proteases, amylases, and hydrogen cyanide (HCN), whereas 11 strains were detected to produce siderophores. All strains affected fungal growth in the antagonism test. The strain Bacillus sp. ER11 showed the highest percentages of fungal inhibition, more than 70% in all cases.
