The main functions of the "Alexander und Wilhelm von Humboldt" Institute from Havana University as well as the major tasks of its library are enumerated. The results obtained through a project aimed to transmit basic elements about the use of information sources and services to pregraduate students are discussed. With that goal, a sample composed by 36 students that during the school periods of 1995-96 and 1996-97 were in second year of bachelor's degree in German Language and Literature was selected. Due to the positive welcome that this application had among the selected students and at the School Foreing Languages in Havana University, it is suggested to spread this experience to all the students in higher level education. Its aim is to add the training as information users to its pregraduate professional education.
