Abstract

CANEDO ANDALIA, Rubén. Aspectos generales sobre el entorno de Internet. ACIMED [online]. 1999, vol.7, n.3, pp.154-163. ISSN 1024-9435.

Work with Internet has just begun in Cuba. Its access that is still limited, promises to reach progressively the main health institutions of the country. This fact will largely benefit the professional activity in this sector. However, the correct exploitation of the information resources that may be used via Internet is complex and laborious. The purpose of this paper is to offer a brief introductory explanation about some of the most used elements to those readers who do not have the knowledge or the complete access to the greatest information network of the world yet. Some details about the creation of Internet, its basic services, as well as a series of considerations on its significance for scientific communication in general and for the health sector in particular are exposed.

Keywords : INTERNET [history]; INTERNET [utilization]; INFORMATION NETWORKS; WWW; REMOTE INFORMATION SERVICES.
