Abstract

ORAMAS DIAZ, Jehová  and  JIMENEZ MIRANDA, Jorgelina. La Colaboración Cochrane Iberoamericana en Cuba. ACIMED [online]. 2001, vol.9, n.2, pp.127-135. ISSN 1024-9435.

Ibero-American Cochrane Collaboration The founding of Cochrane Collaboration was a landmark in the development of the evidence-based medicine at international scale. Its contributions, mainly those of methodological nature, are a remarkable effort for the shaping of the theoretical body of this new discipline. Its co-operation projects have allowed the implementation of its experience in a number of countries just like the one presented here, which is carried out by the National Center of Medical Information under the auspices of the Ibero-American Cochrane Collaboration Project. The objective is to show the results of the application of the Cochrane methodology in a selected sample of papers published by a group of Cuban medical or related journals as well as to present a set of electronic sources available in Internet, which have information on the evidence-based medicine. Controlled clinical assays published in Cuban biomedical journals using the Cochrane methodology were identified. There is a comparison of the results obtained from the manual search and those from the automated search in Medline database. Some general aspects about the importance and the role of the evidence-based medicine along with some ideas, data and sources of information that reflect the work of this initiative worldwide are set forth in this paper. The partial review of 25 journal titles made it possible to find 60 controlled clinical assays in the 1999-2000 period. These results significantly differ from the data provided by the searches in Medline-indexed titles. The manual search has showed better results than the automated search. On the other hand, it is possible to confirm the high number of relevant sources that may be consulted in the electronic format in the Health Portal of Cuba, Infomed.
