The information professional in the face of the technological paradigm challenges. Reflections are made on the place and importance of the information professionals in the face of the challenges of the new information and communication technologies, particularly Internet as the greatest representative of the new technological paradigm which contributes to the economic and social progress of every country. The use of Internet is a pressing task to be accomplished so that a country can assimilate the social, economic, political, cultural and educational changes, which are caused by the emergence of new information and communication technologies and correctly respond to the challenges of globalization, and make a good use of Internet’s huge possibilities and at the same time protect the sovereignty and national identity. The information professionals are set to accept the challenges imposed by the technological development, if they wish to successfully face the present demands of their profession, and to use the increasing facilities of this network of networks to assure the access to information and to meet the needs of the society in this regard.
