Abstract

CASTILLO-LEYVA, Yoel Alexander et al. Aproximación al estudio bibliométrico de las recopilaciones médicas cubanas. ACIMED [online]. 2002, vol.10, n.1, pp.06-17. ISSN 1024-9435.

Approach to the historic and bibliographic study of the Cuban medical recopilations A bibliometic study of CUMED, the database par excellence generated by the National Medical Library is conducted in order to systematize the production of the Cuban medical literature. To this end, the following variables were considered: year of publication , type of document, thematic sources, and authoral and coauthoral activity. Serials were the most published type of document (14, 998, 86.58% of the total analyzed). The Cuban journals with the highest representation were: the Cuban Journal of Surgery, the Cuban Journal of Medicine, the Issues of History of Public Health and the Cuban Journal of Pediatrics. There are only 31 titles of foreigm journals with 98 articles written by Cuban authors. The most dealt with topics refer to the most important achievements of public health in the country as, for example, the sustained reduction of infant mortality rate and the prioritized programs in the health field. A similar situation is observed in the treatment of the precodified (age groups and sex) with a predominance of females and children. 8 893 main authors were identified. Of them, 125 were considered as big producers (more than 10 papers), 2 726 as average producers (from 2 to 9 papers) and 6 040 as small producers with just one paper. The fundamental function of the studied database was the bibliographic control of the documentary production of journals published by the National Center of Medical Information on Medical Sciences (13 382 registries of the 17 323 correspond to those published by ECIMED, its publishing house, accounting for 77.24%). A decrease of the documentary production registered in the database was observed during the 1990s as a result of the material limitations caused by the special period.
