A group of the main search tools operating in Internet are defined, described and characterized. The methods recognized for their assessment and selection are analyzed, and some pieces of advice are given to improve the selection process in order to obtain better results. Their difference and similarities, advantages and disadvantages are broadly expounded, and their current usage trends are analyzed
