Abstract

FORTEZA FERNANDEZ, Rafael; AVILA OLIVA, Libia  and  SANCHEZ RODRIGUEZ, Roberto. La creación del léxico médico: una aproximación desde la perspectiva de la lingüística sistémica funcional. ACIMED [online]. 2004, vol.12, n.3, pp.1-1. ISSN 1024-9435.

From the perspective of systemic functional linguistics and in order to identify the ways in which medical vocabulary is built, the vocabulary used in a sample of specialized journals and books was studied. The study showed that there are different means by which medical sciences build the field of discourse, among them, the use of terms of vernacular origin with or without premodification play an important role. The Latin and Greek roots are also very important for the construction of words starting from them, as well as the use of grammatical metaphors. Thus, it is demonstrated how medical vocabulary has acquired sui generis characteristics to express its activity.

Keywords : medical vocabulary; linguistics.
