Abstract

ARAUJO RUIZ, Juan A  and  ARENCIBIA JORGE, Ricardo. THE 50 CUBAN ARTICLES ON BIOMEDICAL SCIENCE CITED THE MOST IN THE WEB OF SCIENCE FROM 1988 TO 2003. ACIMED [online]. 2005, vol.13, n.2, pp.1-1. ISSN 1024-9435.

This paper shows the 50 most cited Cuban articles in the Web of Science, corresponding to biomedical sciences. An analysis about the advantages and problems of the citation analysis was made. The word "Cuba" in the field "Author Address" was used as a search strategy. A total of 7141 articles written by or with the cooperation of Cuban authors between 1988 and 2003 were obtained, from which 50,8 % was cited at least once. The average of citations for each article was 2,68. The 78 % of the articles was generated by an international cooperation. The topic fields treated by the 50 most cited articles are briefly analyzed, as well as the most represented institutions. It is conclude that the compiled articles can be considered as the ones which have influenced the ost on the scientific international community, taking into account the recogniton made in the medical literature indexed in the most important bibliographical database from Science and Technology.
