An analysis is made of the transformations that have taken place as well as of the tendencies existing in the editorial world nowadays, as a result of the impact of the latest information and communication technological advances and the market demands. The influence of these transformations on the professional competition among the workers of this field is briefly explained. These tendencies make imperative to redimension the competences of the information professionals, as well as to take advantage of the opportunities of professional development offered by the editorial field.
