Abstract

GUZMAN SANCHEZ, Maria V et al. The Latin American Network for Scientific and Technical Information on Vaccines: an alternative for the region. ACIMED [online]. 2005, vol.13, n.5, pp.1-1. ISSN 1024-9435.

Vaccines represent the most frequent immunological intervention used in medicine today. However, there are only vaccines for 13 of the 28 diseases that require to be developed to palliate world epidemic situations. In addition to this, there exist myths spread by non-accredited groups. This lack of information or misinformation affects the population and the development of new projects in this area. All of it has contributed to the development of the project called "Latin American Network for Scientific and Technical Information on Vaccines" (Red-CiTeVa, in Spanish). This network is created with a central node in the Vaccines Virtual Library (VVL) and the Virtual Classroom on Vaccinology. Its potential users are the specialists working in this area of knowledge, researchers engaged in the discovery of new vaccines and a great number of the health sector personnel. To guarantee the access, the site will be in Infomed, which will allow its use by hospitals, polyclinics, libraries and medical universities, among other institutions in Cuba and Latin America. The VVL will not only make possible the access to information, but it will offer a series of online services as the consultation to experts and the analysis of projects, among others.
