Abstract

DEL CASTILLO GUEVARA, Jorge  and  LEAL LABRADA, Osvaldo. Library Science: ¿science or technique? Toward a new debate . ACIMED [online]. 2006, vol.14, n.2. ISSN 1024-9435.

Library science is, at present, object of a deep debate that seeks to clarify if this discipline is a science or simply a set of techniques, if it is the product of a collection of know-how and tools of different fields of knowledge due, among other causes, to a historical investigation activity developed with an applicable and practical character that distanced it from the epistemological approaches and the theoretical investigation necessary for the formation of a science. The development of library science is examined as a field of knowledge. Some of the philosophical and epistemological approximations that could have influenced on it as ruling paradigms of its historical evolution are identified. Some elements of gnoseological order are dealt with aimed at clarifying the contradictions observed in the present debate about the scientific or technical character of this discipline

Keywords : Library Science; epistemology.
