Abstract

During the information selection process carried out by the institutions of information, it is indispensable the analysis of the content of the documents that will form the documentary fund and that will contribute efficiently to the education and continuous instruction of the users. The concept of censorship, understood as the judgments of value given on the content of one or several works of any technical, scientific, or other type of manifestation is analyzed. Certain aspects related to the definition of ethics and their application to the sphere of the information professionals are dealt with. The general ethical principles supporting a group of ethical codes, as well as the spheres of the ethical analysis related to information are exposed. The analysis of the relation of information censorship to other ethical aspects, such as the selection of information, the freedom of expression and the access to information is particularized.
