Resumen

LOPEZ ESPINOSA, José Antonio. Contribution to the history of the Cuban bibliography on Ophthalmology. ACIMED [online]. 2007, vol.15, n.3. ISSN 1024-9435.

The first texts that registered information related to eye illnesses in the ancient world are cited, and the content of the works that paved the way of the ophthalmologic bibliography at the international level, from the invention of the printing press to those published in the second half of the XIX century, is revealed. The first references to the bibliographic production on this discipline in Cuba are mentioned, as well as the first articles of a true scientific character related to it, found in the pages of the first medical journal edited in the island. A brief analysis is made of the first book written in Spanish exclusively dedicated to eye affections, which was written, edited and published in two volumes, in Havana. Reference is made to other works of Cuban authors related to eye illnesses that due to their importance have gone beyond the time. The titles of the national magazines specialized in this topic that were published during the XX century are also mentioned.

Palabras clave : Medical bibliography; retrospective bibliography; medical magazines; Ophthalmology; Cuba..
