Abstract

Aimed at determining the use of electronic publications as an information source and, mainly, as a bibliographic support to the research papers generated in the health sector in Cuba, a citation analysis of the scientific production published between 2003 and 2006 was made. The analysis focused on five journals of the Hygiene and Epidemiology discipline. The following variables were analyzed: number of bibliographic references (printed and electronic), the most cited authors and electronic publications in electronic format, language, country, typology and currency. The results showed a predominance of the printed information resources, although there is a growing trend to cite contributions published in electronic format. The Cuban electronic scientific journals, accessible through Internet, were the most used.
