Abstract

LOPEZ ESPINOSA, José Antonio. The beginning of medical education in Cuba as part of the knowledge disseminated by the Virtual Health University. ACIMED [online]. 2008, vol.18, n.5. ISSN 1024-9435.

With the objective of preventing that the significance of many events, which have become milestones of the Cuban medicine due to their public recognition, be ignored or driven into the shadows as time goes by, the Medical Humanities site in the Virtual Health Library emerged in 2002 as a contribution to the educational improvement and cultural development in the fields of history, philosophy and humanistic ideas related to health sciences. The resources at the disposal of professors and students to attain this aim are mentioned, and a detailed analysis of one of its sections is made on the ocassion of the 280th anniversary of the beginning of higher education in the Real and Pontificia Universidad del Máximo Doctor San Jerónimo de La Habana and, particularly, of the 282th anniversary of the beginning of medical education at San Juan de Letrán Convent.
