Abstract

Antecedents and evolution of the literature production related to children diseases at international scale are exposed. The first articles edited in Cuba on this theme are identified appeared at the end of the XVIII century in the Papel Periódico de la Habana, pioneer in these periodic national publications. A brief analysis of the first Cuban book content, completely dedicated to this matter is done, and other materials with similar characteristics that appeared after the colony period are disclosed. Other documentary modalities part of the group conforming the precursor literature of Paediatrics in the island are presented, among them the first thesis defended by Cuban students opting by the Doctor in Medicine Degree in the University of Paris, the first journals articles and the first papers seen in a scientific event in the country. Finally, some distinctive features regarding to the Revista Cubana de Pediatría history, dean of the national scientific publications in the health sciences, are specified.
