The scientific production published by MEDISAN electronic journal from Santiago de Cuba in the period 2004-2007 was studied aiming to characterize that production as well as the bibliographical references used for the production. The documental typology was observed and the most frequent themes of investigation. The Price index for the articles was determined and the productivity of the authors. The universe was constituted by 179 articles of the cuatrienium studied and its 2 503 bibliographical references. In all the years studied, the Price index obtained values less than 0.5, and this reveals the lack of actualization in the references used to elaborate the papers in the period being analyzed. A predominance of scientific articles was observed. Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Ophthalmology and Dentistry were the specialities most treated. The majority of the authors have only one article in the studied sample.
