The Central Laboratory for Cerebrospinal Fluid was founded in 2004 in the Medical Science Faculty "Dr. Miguel Enríquez" from Havana Medical Sciences University It has three main functions: scientific research, pre and postgraduate university teaching and medical attention as reference centre for excellence devoted to cerebrospinal fluid analysis. The purpose is to describe the scientific productivity, the visibility and its international impact of the scientific production made by Central Laboratory for Cerebrospinal Fluid during 2004-2009. The total of papers made by the four researchers was collected. The following database and database systems were consulted: Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed y Cumed. GoPubMed was employed to identify author leadership and to make collaboration maps. Productivity, visibility and H, G, R y A indexes as well as H1 and H2 successive index were calculated. The international authors ranking from lab members in two selected topic were determined. Author's productivity was 16 papers average by author during the period 2004-2009. In 2009, almost 70% and more than 53% of the identified contributions were registered by PubMed and Web of Science. Centre H1 index was 8 and H2 index was 3. In the theme "intrathecal synthesis of immunoglobulins" two researchers from this lab were ranked amongst the first 20 ones in the world. The productivity, visibility and impact of the scientific work of this centre due because of its established coherent politics have been contributed to place its researchers in an important place among the Cuban neuroscientists and from the American continent devoted to cerebrospinal fluid studies.
