Resumen

FERRER HERRERA, Ismael M; ROMERO SANCHEZ, María del C; COLLOT GUTIERREZ, Josefina  y  DE LA PAZ CARMONA, Alina. The choice of comprehensive medicine. A current problem. AMC [online]. 1997, vol.1, n.1. ISSN 1025-0255.

A descriptive, cross-sectional study about the causes of rejection to integral general medicine was performed among 75 medicine students of first, fourth and fifth years during the first semester of 1995-1996 course. They belong to "Ignacio Agramonte" Communitary Teaching Polyclinic of Camaguey municipality. Data obtained through a survey carried out at the beginning and at the end of the stage, which included the study variables, such as: current year, age, sex, and origin, acceptance or refusal to integral general medicine and its causes were processed in computerized way. Main causes were related to a deficient vocational guidance. It means that there was neither understanding of promotion nor prevention importance. Guidance was directed mainly to disease assistance which seems to be dependent of the hospital influence in its formation, without taking into account community as a scene of action. These and other causes of subjective and organizable character are susceptible to modifications.

Palabras clave : COMMUNITY MEDICINE; HEALTH CARE.
