Resumen

The objective of the study was to compare objective quantity that was evaluated by the objectively structured clinical exam (OSCE) and by the Theoretical-Practical Exam (TPE), determine evaluation results of the objectively structured clinical exam (OSCE) according to the characteristics of simulation used in the stages and compare results of the objectively structured Clinical Exam with those of the Theoretical-practical traditional Exam and the evaluation by criteria of the group's professor or individually The design was: a descriptive-retrospective study. The sample comprises dentistry Internists of 1995-1996 course who were finishing rotation of General Dentistry in Camaguey Municipality. The total number of internists was 17; who knew the evaluation and objectives they should fulfill.Measures of the main outcome: With this method it was proved the hypothetical statement, because for the analysis of performance it is necessary the use of technical methods and procedures that make possible the acquisition of valuable and pertinent information. Objectives are explored, stressing the diagnosis and clinical treatment. All objectives evaluated had the same complexity level and all were proved in each student.Concluding,The objectively structured clinical Exam (OSCE) allows the checking up of greater quantity of objectives with greater level of difficulty and uniformity than the theoretical practical exam.In simulators for carrying out practical actions, evaluations were lower than theoretical ones.In the group, there was not coincidence among the evaluated cathegories of professors' criteria with the results of the theoretical and practical exams; professors' criteria coincided with those obtained in OSCE in a general sense. Individually, 50% coincides with the results of marks as to professors' criteria and 60% as to the theoretical-practical exam.
