Abstract

GONZALEZ MARTINEZ, Ana Rosa; FONTES QUINONEZ, Elcida  and  FAURE ALAYO, Antonia. Nursing staff knowledge about stmulation activities in neonatology services unce Camaguey municipality. AMC [online]. 1997, vol.1, n.1. ISSN 1025-0255.

A descriptive, cross-sectional, prospective study was carried out in 66 nurses specialized in Neonatology who comprise 67,32% out of the total personnel that is working in the five services of the province; Nuevitas, Guáimaro, Florida and the Neonatology services of the Maternal-Infant Hospital and the Pediatric Hospital during 1992 to 1993, with the aim of assessing their knowledge about stimulating procedures, creating 6 variables with the following result. 69,7% of the surveyed personnel has performed stimulating procedures, and 30% do not. Ways of learning were used through interviews with the medical staff. 40,9% knew these topics 5 years ago, 13,7% less than 3 years, 37,9% less than one year and 7,5% do not know them. The more frequent procedures are tactual, auditive and visual. 53,1% states that the premise for doing procedures is: level of ability, experience of nursing personnel, taking into account neither patient evolution nor medical predictions. 71,3% know the most appropriate moments for applying procedures.
