Abstract

SIRE GOMEZ, Alexis; ALBORNOZ LOPEZ DEL CASTILLO, Carlos; CRESPO GUERRA, Mario Carlos  and  VERGARA PREDIA, Librado. Etiological considerations abouth labiopalatine fissure. AMC [online]. 1998, vol.2, n.2. ISSN 1025-0255.

Objetive: A brief updated review about the etiology of labiopataline fissures was carried out, stressing hypotheses and the most important evidences described by some authors. Data Source: Bibliographic references found in the Libraries of the Medical College of Camaguey, "Manuel Ascunce Domenech" Hospital, and "Eduardo Agramonte Piña" Pediatric. Hospital, as well as the automated searching (MEDLINE) in a review performed from january 1996 to August 1997. Study Selection and Data Compendium: Selection was done independently by different reviewers, taking as selection criterium those related with the study theme, and topies of this investigation. Data Synthesis: Labiopalatine fissure is the most frequint congenital defect which affects maxilofacial structures of man. It is the fourth stomatological health problem. Its etiology is due to congenital and environmental factors, being the labial fissure with fissured palate or without it, genetically different from palatine fissure. The influence of year seasons, parenteral age, teratogenic and metritional factors, as well as alcoholism and smoking has been strongly discussed in the etiology of these fissures. Conclusions: Genetical and enviromental factors are currently considered in the etiology of labiopalatine fissures; showing that the labial fissure with palate associated or without it and the isolated palatine fissure are genetically, and in their development, differententities. Moreover, hereditary factors play a more important role in the labial fissure with associated palate, while enviromental factors are in the palatine one.
