Abstract

GARCIA MORGADO, Vivian  and  MARTINEZ VARONA, Bárbara. Hydrocolonography. A current auxiliary tecnique of diagnosis. AMC [online]. 1999, vol.3, n.3. ISSN 1025-0255.

A prospective, crosssectional and analytical study was performed in one year - period of 60 patiens with colon phatology , non urgente, who were assisted in Amalia Simoni Hospital. As true criterio, according to colonoscopy, surgery or both. For performing hidrocolon a balloon probe was used instead of buscopan the pathological findings as to diagnosis by hydrocolon we found: colon tomours, instestinal invagination, polyps, colitis, all proved by colonenema and colonoscopy or surgery. Exeepting a case of polyp with negatve colon -enema and positive colonoscopy comprobation and 3 cases of diverticulitis by negative hidrocolonography and positive colon -enema . This last corresponds with the international bibliography. Imaging signs found by pathology are described . A sensitivy of 88, 4 % is found, specificity of 97, 3 %, a positive predictive value of 95, 8 %, a negative predictive value 92, 8 %, related with colon -enema diagnosis? and related with definitive diagnosis it shows and effectiveneses of 93, 75 %, and 100%. The economic importance of hidrocolon is determined by economic calculations of unitarian cast. It is calculated that the application of the brings about an annual saving of $ 4, 692.00 for our hospital. For all reasons explained above, we recomnend the use of hydrocolon as initial examination in the study of colon pathologies in the whole country.
