Abstract

An experimental study was performed to show the effectiveness of two instruments for assessing pain the child. two groups were created one of study composed of 20 children admitted in the Pediatric Hospital of Camagüey Province within january and march 1998, with illnesses accompanied by pain. Without treatment for this, and the control group composed of children supposedly healthy who attend to Alegres Campanitas day care Centre and Renato Guitart Primary school. In both groups, age ranged from 4 to 7 years, preschool stage, according to Piaget. The Test of 9 faces and Eland's Color Scale were applied, both modified. A comparative analysis of results of technique application was carried out and it was assessed that both instruments are confirmed as diagnostic discriminative means. A high frequency of red color associated to pain was observed. We considered that both should be assessed and used combined with techniques of psychological treatment to pain.
