A study of case and controls was carried out with the aim of knowing the behavior of some risk factors associated with the cerebrovascular disease in the health area corresponding to "Francisco Pena Pena" Communitary Polyclinic of Nuevitas from April to December 1997. Ninety eight cases and 196 controls were studied. Data collected through the survey applied to both groups was processed in a computer. The results found 77, 55% of cases were older than 60 years and the masculine sex significantly prevailed in this group. The atherothrombotic cerebral infarction was the prevailing presentation form. The arterial hypertension constituted the risk factor of higher relevance followed in decreasing order by ischemic cardiopathy, diabetes mellitus, smoking habit and hypercholesterolemia.
