Abstract

A descriptive, cross-sectional and retrospective study was performed in 46 patients diagnosed and treated for suprancondylar fracture of the humerus in the child within the year 1998. A greater incidence was found in the masculine sex (57 %) compared with the femenine, the most frequent age group was that of 6 to 10 years (67 %), the most comonon cause folling (50 %). The left elbow was the most affected (72 %). Falling with the extended elbow significantly prevailed (96 %). The type III Garland's lesion significantly affected 61%. The conservator treatment was the most used (96 %). Complications were observed in 22 % of the cases.
