VARELA HERNANDEZ, Ariel; LOPEZ HERNANDEZ, Hubiel  e  MEDRANO GARCIA, Roberto. Post - traumatic hydrocphalia. Analysis of three cases. AMC [online]. 2001, vol.5, n.4, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1025-0255.

A restropective study of patients with cranioncephalic trauma aadmitted at Manuel Ascunce D Provincial Hospital during the first semester of 1999 was carried out. They were detected hydrocephalic at any moment of their post-traumatic evolution with the aim of presenting clinico-imaging characteristics of cases detected with post-traumatic hydrocephalia. A survey was performed departing from clinical records of patients who composed the sample and which intracranial pressure was monitored by intraventricular catheter. The apparition of hydrocephalia was related with age, sex, severity of cranial trauma and type of intracranial lesion, identifying the moment this complication appeared, its imaging characterstics and influencein the prognosis. It was frequent in these patients the existence of diffuse axonal, subarachnoid hemorragic lesion in these patients in whom a complication was observed after the eighth day of the metaventricular accident most frequent phenomenumin the genesis of the postraumatic hydrocephalia, it should be suspected in all patients with severe cranioencephalic trauma with subarachnoid hemorages and slow or nule improvement. Continuos monitoring of intracranial pressure may be of great help in the early detection of this complication.
