Abstract

Fourty nine patients were prospectively studied within the period from january 1999 to june 2000. They were performed angiotomograhy computed and cerebral arteriography. For the inclussion criterium, patients with antecedents of subarachnoid hemorrhage, diagnosed through lumbar puncture or simple anterior computed axial tomography or with strong clinical suspecion of suffering for aneurysmsor arteriovenous malformations. Angio TC were performed in a helicoidal tomographer, processed in third dimension, multiplane reconstruction, of shading surface and maximal projection intensity reconstructions. Contrast injection was manually carried out with a conventional equipament, in the great majority of cases by direct carotid puncture. Both methods were analyzed individually and posteriorly joined and with surgical results in both. Thirty five aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations were detected. In three cases, multiple aneurysms associated cases; 94 % of sensibility in the initial valoration was obtained, and the whole analysis contributed to the adquisition of experience. We consider that the helicoidal angio computed tomography allows a rapid performance with the only risk of the adverse reaction to the contrast medium, which may guides arteriography, with minimal risk and resources for the patient. It my substitute preoperatory conventional arteriography and speed up therapeutic behavior. This technique may be applied in all centers which have a tomographer whit similar characteristicst their tomographer at disposal.
