Abstract

A descriptive study with a medical intervention was performed with the aim of knowing the management of acute respiratory infections (ARI) in the community of 104 mothers of infantsin 20 health clinics belonging to North Communitary Policlinyc of Florida municipality within a period from October 10, 1999 to March 21, 2000. The primary source of data was represented by family clinical record in which the total of infants and mothers was represented by clinical record in which the total of infants and mothers was written; and definitive primary source was given by a survey designed for this. Data were codified manually and later were processed is an IBM microcomputer applying statistic program Microstat. It was found that disorders such as: lack of knowledge about managements of the febrile child, symptoms and signs of worsening of ARI, indiscriminated use of medicaments and self prescription of dougs, as well as the poor understanding of risk factors of ARI were the main difficulties.
