A descriptive study was carried out with the aim of characterizing 153 patients surgically inrtervened for lithiasic biliary pathologies at "Martín Chan Puga" General Hospital of Nuevitas from January 1999 to December 2002, to whom a drainage was inserted in the peritoneal cavity after the practice of choleccystectomy and /or biliodigestive bypass as well as the determination of complications that appeared related with this practice during 1999-2002. More than two -thirds of patients belonged to femenine sex, prevailing the group among 15 to 45 years old. The great majority of interventions corresponded to cholescystectomy for vesicular lithiasis and acute cholescystitis. Subhepatic collections and biliaryperitonitis were not documented . Complications not related with the absence of drainage in the urgent surgery were observed . Postoperatory staying was acceptably short. It was observed that surgery of biliary passages may be perfomed with good results an low morbimortality rates without using abdominal drainages.

Palabras clave : CHOLECYSTECTOMY [methods]; DRAINAGE [utilization].
