Abstract

An epidemiological, analytical, longitudinal, observational and restrospective study of cases and controls with children younger than five years diagnosed for acute respiratory infection (ARI) in the Borgne comune, North department, Haiti Republic, during the period from January to December 2001 was carried out the aim of identifying risk factors present in the ARI in this age group. The incidence of acute respiratory infections in the health centre of Borgne was of 21,2 %. The association of ARI, heaping, protein-caloric malnutrition, no breastfeeding during the first year prevailed. Sex and smoking were not associated.
