Abstract

Diseases of the oral cavity have proliferated in all age groups through history. The risk for emergence and development increases when nutritional health is compromised, when masticatory efficiency is decreased in cases of poor oral hygiene and even when sugars and starches are consumed in excess. The effects of sugar, as well as nutritional deficits are discussed in this review that considers the appropriate levels of sugar consumption as a necessary part of a worldwide effort in reducing the incidence of oral health problems. It emphasizes that a better understanding of the relationship between oral conditions and excess sugar as well as nutritional deficiencies, will be useful in education ago. A better and more scientific work developed nutritional counseling by qualified professionals, especially dentists will result in better benefits to the reward that means a lifetime of health.
