Abstract

Cardiovascular diseases an the main cause of death in our country since long time age among them ischemic cardiopathy is the responsible for more than 80 % of the diseased. A retrospective study in 19 patients with acute myocardial infarction was carried out in the Provincial Polyclinic for Emergency at Minas Hospital in Camagüey Province within the period from January to December, 2001, with the aim of assessing prevalence of the acute myocardial infarction. To this sample, a survey designed by the research authors was performed, in which the behavior of the following variables: age, sex, risk factors, diseases associated and most frequent complications was analyzed. Information obtained was processed in statistic packages using an IBM microcomputer. The most frequent age was from 60 to 70 years, with 557, 86 % and masculine sex with 47,36 % complications and diseases associated to it were cardiac failure (36,84 %), as well as disease with 31,57 %. The most frequent risk factor was the arterial hypertension with with 68,42 %, retired had the greater group with 78,94 % of there patients.
