Abstract

An explicative study was carried out with the aim of obtaining information about the use of strengthened antibiotic ophthalmic solutions (AOS) in the treatment of 43 patient with bacterial keratitis at Manuel Ascunce Domenech Provincial Hospital, within the period from September 1999 to august, 2000. Subjects studied were performed an exam in cleft lamp and a sample was taken for microbial studies after that they were treated following different therapeutic schemes which included the use of AOS. Microbiol cultures were positive in 03.64 % of patients, pseudomonas aureginosa was the most frequently isolated bacterium. The AOS of aminoglucosids and cefazoline were the most used. We found statistically significant prevalence of the successful evolution on the seventh days of treatment. At the end of the 28 th days 76.74 % of cases were medically discharged. In the studied series, successful evolution prevailed the incidence of complications was very and recovering of visual acuteness was good in approximately half of patients.
