Abstract

DEL RISCO BARRIOS, Ubaldo  and  DIEGUEZ FERNANDEZ, Lorenzo. Presence and distribution of intermediary hosts Angiostrongylus cantonensis in Camagüey. Prevalence and epidemiological importance for its control. AMC [online]. 2004, vol.8, n.1, pp.1-13. ISSN 1025-0255.

The angiostrongylosis has gained epidemiological important in Cuba, taking into account the member of cases reported, mainly in the infant population. The study was performed in the head municipality of Camagüey, which was stratified to make easy the study in 10 zones: More than 60 % of the molluscs collected alive, belonging to four species were found infected in a natural way with larvas of Angiostrongylus cantonensis (chen 1935), distinguishing Subulina octona (earth mollusc) with 81, 25 % and Pomacea paludosa (sweet water mollusc) with 65, 3 %. The parasitic distribution proved to be wide, important aspect to consider, because it is a serious danger for the health of population: These data which are the first ones given to Camagüey territory, contribute to establish adequate strategy of host control of disease, emphasizing in the educative interventions.
