Abstract

A descriptive study was carried out with the aim of characterizing patients with myasthenia gravis, during 1994 to 2001; the universe comprised 50 patients whose data were processed using the statistic prekage microstat; myasthenia type IIB (28 %) prevailed, followed by type IIa and IV (26 %) for each; women with 64 %prevailed, lupus erythematous disseminated was the diseases associated more frequent (6 %); among clinical manifestation bilateral palpebral ptosis presented in 88 % out of the universe followed by weakness of the scapular waist weakness only with 32 %. Thymic hyperplasia was the most frequent diagnosis either from the tomographic point of view or histologic; striated; cardiac and smooth antimuscle antibodies had frequencies with discute differences (46 %; 44 %, 42 %) respectively, while HLA, DRW·3 and Be 5 occupied the first place with 22 %.
