Resumen

A clinical essay, phase III, was carried out with 92 patients of both sexes, from 5 to 20 years old remitted to the Natural and Traditional Medicine Clinic at Carlos J. Finlay Medical University by the specialized consultations of neurology and Maxillofacial of Camagüey province with the diagnosis of peripheral facial paralysis within the period from January 2001 to July 2002. The sample was divided into two groups control. and study, the control with 62 patients and the study with 31 (in a proportion of two by one). The objectives proposed were: determine the therapeutic behaviour to follow; evaluate treatment and results and show the effectiveness of the acupuncture therapy to achieve the quality of treatment in the peripheral facial paralysis. Concluding, palsies produced by temperature changes treated with acupuncture, its motor recovering is faster, the indiscriminate use of steroids brings about a higher number of side effects unfavorable for child development. Motor recovering of patients would be faster with the early instauration of acupuncture treatment and the quality of our treatments would be better.
