A study of the glucophosphate dehydrogenase (G-G-P-des-H)) enzyme activity in erytrocyte suspensions from the samples taken to a group of 626 students coming from Africa, Central America and Caribbean, South America and Asia who were admitted in our province from November 1999 to November 2000. The qualitative method of Breger based on the enzymatic reduction of Methilene Blue, was used. Test were performed at the Provincial Centre of Hygiene and Epidemiology of Camagüey, Cuba. It was proved that the 2, 87 % of the group studied, presented deficiencies in the activity of the mentioned enzyme, as well as the 25 % of persons of black skin studied, were carriers of the enzymatic defect and that among persons from Subsaharian Africa, the said deficiency had the higher incidence.
