Abstract

Thirty three patients diagnosed and treated for acute hematogeneous osteomyelitis in the service of Orthopedics and Traumatology at Eduardo Agramonte Piña Pediatric Hospital of Camagüey within a period of three years were subjected to an observational and explicative study. Masculine sex prevailed with 26 cases for 78, 7 %. Age groups with higher incidence were those from 5, 6 to 10 years with more than 30 % each of them. Trauma was the antecedent frequently found in 18 patients for 54, 5 %. Acute osteomyelitis was the most frequent; 20 (60, 6 %) patients. The germ more found was the Staphilococcus aureous in more than 60 %. The antibiotics with higher percentage of sensitivity were Amikacyne and Cephazoline (88, 8). The antibiotic therapy during there weeks represented 66, 6 %. The average hospital staging was that of 10,7 d. From the localization point of view, the hand had a higher incidence with 30 %. The treatment more used was the conservative in the 60, 6 % of patients.
