Abstract

A descriptive study was conducted to identify some biological and psychological risk factors of immobilization in patients admitted in the geriatrics department of the Amalia Simoni Hospital of Camaguey, from January 2002 to January 2003. The sample was composed by 150 patients who presented immobilization risks; a survey was made to these patients. The age group 70-79 years old and the female sex predominated; biological risks predominated as immobilization risks and among them the muscular-skeletal diseases. In the evaluation of the abilities, physical abilities were more affected, among them the activities of daily life. Among immobilized patients, the most frequent complications were the systemic complications.
