Abstract
GARCIA PENA, Olga Lidia et al. Rice formula in the diet of undernourished infants. AMC [online]. 2004, vol.8, n.6, pp.81-90. ISSN 1025-0255.
In children with energetic-proteic undernutrition, the intolerance to milk is frequent, so the quantity of lactose in the lacteous diet is intended to diminish is them, and it is mixed with formulas that donot contain lactose. Among the natural products that may be used, it is rice .A prospective study was performed in which the effectiveness of rice formula in the undernourished diet with lactose intolerance was evaluated. We took into account the quantity of daily diarrheas, weight gain, tolerability and tasting. The treatment with the hypolactosed mixture of rice in the lacteous diet of each child, showed positive results/ only 13, 80 % of infants in the study had more than four diarrheas daily, 24, 14 % presented inadequate gain, that is why its use in infants under six months is evaluated, the 20, 69 % did not tolerate the formula and 95, 10 % accepted it.
